The outer braiding layer of charging and data cables not only improves product tensile strength and anti-tangle performance, but is also an important visual element for brand differentiation. From Apple Lightning cables to Android Type-C cables to high-power fast-charging cables, the braiding process requirements vary. The main materials for cable braiding are nylon (polyamide, excellent abrasion resistance, smooth hand feel, suitable for mid-to-high-end products), polyester (lower cost, vibrant colors, suitable for large-volume basic models), and recycled PET (compliant with EU environmental regulations, suitable for exports to Europe). Different materials have significantly different braiding tensions—nylon yarn is typically controlled at 1.5-2.5N, polyester yarn at 1.0-2.0N, and recycled PET at 0.8-1.5N due to lower fiber strength. Excessive tension makes the cable stiff and reduces bending life; insufficient tension results in loose braiding that cannot effectively protect the internal wire core.
